Edwin Louis Cole
Edwin Louis Cole, an internationally acclaimed speaker, bestselling author, preacher, and motivational lecturer, was known for his practical application of wisdom from Biblical principles. His pithy statements and confrontational style challenged men to social responsibility and family leadership. The ministry he founded under the guidance of the Holy Spirit continues to reach hundreds of thousands of men worldwide, challenging them to fulfill their potential for true manhood, which is Christlikeness.
Cole, “the father of the Christian men’s movement,” mentored millions of men through events and powerful books that have sold millions, including the landmark Maximized Manhood. His body of work makes up the most widely used Christian men’s resources in the world.
Through his books and resources, men follow a discipleship path to Christlike manhood. Cole then developed “commissioning” of men to become “ministers to the men of the world.” Commissioned men now travel extensively worldwide to spread the ministry to hundreds of thousands more men.
Cole was a real man through and through. A loving son to earthly parents and his heavenly Father. Devoted husband to one wife, the “loveliest lady in the land,” Nancy Corbett Cole. Dedicated father of three and big enough to love others openly, embracing them as “spiritual sons.” But his life didn’t start that way.
Edwin “King” Cole, for whom Cole was named, was a former orphan who grew to be a respected government auditor yet also a compulsive gambler and drinker. Nevertheless, Cole’s devout mother raised him under the pastorate of the famed Aimee Semple McPherson from Angelus Temple, Los Angeles. After running from God during his service in World War II, Cole surrendered his life to Jesus Christ to become a trailblazing pastor, indefatigable evangelist, Christian television pioneer, and revolutionary men’s minister. Then, at an age when most men were retiring, he followed his greatest passion by cofounding with his family the “Christian Men’s Network”—through which he distilled his prodigious vault of wisdom into resources to lead men toward Christlikeness, which he called “real manhood.”
Over the years, he accepted that role of “father” to tens of thousands of men and women worldwide. He was a man of honor and courage. A lifelong learner, reader, thinker, and visionary. A man who made mistakes, learned lessons, then shared the wealth of his wisdom with the world.
Whereas some men’s legacy was to put their names on buildings, Ed Cole’s legacy is that he built men. He was a man who lived and left this earth with the deep satisfaction of fulfilling his God-given purpose.
Cole lived life to the fullest and left an enormous legacy that continues to grow. The Christian Men’s Network he founded in 1977 is an ever more vibrant and advancing global ministry. Unquestionably, Ed Cole was the greatest men’s minister of his generation, with a legacy built to impact future generations.
